CHILDREN AND HIV/AIDS: Training for Peer-Educators Trainers [workshop]

Serve the Orphans Foundation, an NGO working for the well-being of
Orphans and Vulnerable Children in Cameroon is organising a three-day
trianing workshop for 35 peer-educators trainers and village child labour
monitors in April 2005. This workshop is one of the four components for the
implementation of the Ambassadors' Girls' Scholarship Programme which is
funded by USAID and is supervised in region II (Central Africa) by the
Academy for Educational Development a US based international NGO. The
other components are: provision of scholarships to 150 orphan girls,
ensuring the mentoringof these children, and the participation of the
committees through the creation of scholarship committees.

The workshop is aimed at training 35 people who shall act as peer-
educators trainers, child labour and trafficking monitors capable of:
providing care and support to orphans and vulnerable children in their
various communities sensitising the communities in the fight against
HIV/AIDS, child labour and trafficking; identifying best practices by sharing
experiences with other NGOs, community leaders, stake holders, civil
society and government officers in the field; determining possible synergies
between various players in the field, so as to ensure networking and cross-
objective coordination for better solutions to the problems identified;
bringing out proposals to Serve the Orphans Foundation aimed at
providing sustainable solutions to identified problems.

The participants selected from five villages of Donga-Mantung Division are:
teachers, community, religious and opinion leaders who shall undertake
actions in the field aimed at attaining the set objectives.
