Denmark: Law establishing the role of an Ombudsman for Children, 2006

The National Council is established by an Executive Order (originally Executive Order No. 2 of 5 January 1998; now replaced by Executive Order No. 458 of 15 May 2006 – see below). The Executive Order is issued by the Minister of Family and Consumer Affairs in pursuance of section 88 of the Act on Legal Protection and Administration in Social Matters (Consolidated Act No. 847 of 8 September 2005). Section 88 of the Act states that “The Minister of Family and Consumer Affairs appoints a National Council for Children, that should work to safeguard children’s rights and provide information about and advise on children’s conditions in the Danish society…”.
