Summary: The Human Rights Committee will be holding an informal meeting with civil society on 11 July in Geneva
The Human Rights Committee, responsible for monitoring States' compliance with the ICCPR, considers that its close cooperation with NHRIs and NGOs is crucial for the promotion and implementation of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. In this regard, an informal meeting will take place with civil society organisations in Geneva. Meeting Details Objectives The purpose of this meeting is to discuss ways of strengthening the interaction between the Committee and NHRIs and NGOs. Below are suggestions for issues to be discussed: 1. How to strengthen the role of NHRIs and NGOs in the reporting process under ICCPR, including in relation to the follow-up procedure and the individual communications procedure under the Optional Protocol. 2. Modalities of participation of NHRIs and NGOs in the Committee's session. 3. Experiences and best practices of NHRIs' and NGOs' submissions to the Committee. 4. How the work of the Committee could better impact the work of NHRIs and NGOs at national level.
