International Seminar: Children with disabilities - what about their Rights?

Summary: The aim of the seminar is to better understand the life of children with disabilities worldwide, to find out the extent of rights protection provided by the future Convention, and to promote handicap as a real richness. The issues tackled by this Seminar will be the WHO definition of disability, the national and international protection tools like the future UN Convention and CRC General Comment, as well as specific issues like education and training, family, institutionalisation, participation, environment (work, architecture, training), positive and negative discrimination.

IDE is launching a Call for Papers to any person, NGO, State, private or public agency, and/or university, working in the field of children living with disabilities. They are required to send us a presentation illustrating one or several of the issues addressed by the conference. Contributions can be realised in French, English or Spanish. These documents will be presented during the Seminar and given out to all the participants.

In the same spirit, an enclosed a questionnaire meant for concerned persons and/or institutions will attempt to describe the diverse and varied experienced worldwide by children living with disabilities.

IDE is looking forward to your answers to the questionnaire and to your written contribution. You can send them to the address above.
