Consultations and exchange of views on preparations for the first session of the Human Rights Council

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights presents its compliments to Permanent Missions, UN bodies and departments, specialised agencies, intergovernmental organisations, national human rights institutions, non-governmental organisations and other entities and has the honour to inform them that consultations and exchange of views on the  preparations for the first session of the Human Rights Council and related matters will be held on  Friday, 21 April 2006, from 10.00 am to 1.00 pm in conference room XVII of the Palais des Nations. 

This meeting is organised at the initiative of the High Commissioner for Human Rights and the President of the General Assembly who has requested the former Co-Chair on the negotiations for the establishment of a Human Rights Council, Ambassador Ricardo Alberto Arias (Panama), to attend on his behalf. Other relevant departments of the UN Secretariat in New York and Geneva will also be represented.
