Children’s Rights, Participation, Protagonism and Governance

Summary: The course will focus on the attitudes and perceptions of adults and children towards children’s rights, their participation and development. The course will also deal with an understanding of socio-political and economic structures and institutions in order to design/use these to further children’s participation.

Scholarships

DHRUVA announced the availability of scholarships for 5 participant teams for the 11-day Workshop for Frontline Workers and Children on Children's Rights, Participation, Protagonism and Governance (CRPPG) scheduled from October 1-12, 2006.

These scholarships will underwrite the entire course fee of Rs: 20,000 that will include resource fees, learning materials, field trips, local transportation, medical attention and cultural activities.

It will not cover travel costs, boarding and lodging and the cost of translations, if required, by the child. Each team (one adult and one child) will be required to pay a total of Rs: 10,000 (RS: 5,000per head) to cover these costs.

Criteria for Scholarship

These scholarships are available for functionaries of Indian NGOs with limited resources that are working with underprivileged children and have made an organisational commitment to further children's participation and protagonism.

Each scholarship will apply to a team of two that is one adult and one child.

Criteria for the Adult participant:

  •  The adult should be a mid-level or front line functionary of an Indian NGO working directly with underprivileged children
  •  The NGO should have a stated organisational commitment to further children's participation and protagonism
  •  The NGO should be currently engaged with the facilitation and promotion of a programme/project that has enabled the formation of a children's organisation
  •  The adult must be fluent in English

Criteria for the Child participant:

  • The child participant should represent an existing children's organisation
  •  The children's organisation should be committed to children's participation and presently engaged actively with it
  •  The children's organisation should be committed to take children's participation further within the scope of its work
