Children's Rights: Applications for auditing the Master of Advanced Studies in Children’s Rights

Within the framework of the Master of Advanced Studies in Children’s Rights (MCR), a two year post-graduate training programme on children’s rights, organised conjointly by the Institut Universitaire Kurt Bösch (IUKB), in Sion (Switzerland) and the University of Fribourg (Switzerland), we are accepting auditors to participate at one or several modules of the programme.

Each module of the MAS in Children's Rights considers a specific theme.

Those accessible to the auditors address the following subjects: (2 – May 2013) Childhood studies and Childhood research methodology, (3 – September 2013) Children's rights and international law, (4 – December 2013) Child labour and education, (5 – March 2014) Children in contact with the law, (6 – June 2014) Children's rights in the context of health and in relation to migration.

The modules take place in Switzerland, alternately at the University of Fribourg and at IUKB in Sion/Bramois.  Supplementary information on the whole programme is also available on the website's programme www.iukb.ch/mcr.

The MCR Module 5 on the theme ‘Children in contact with the law’ will be held at the University Institute Kurt Bösch, in Sion (Switzerland) from 3 to 7 March 2014 and will deal with juvenile justice matters.

Via lectures and discussion groups, an overview of the relevant international legal framework will be presented. Juvenile Justice reform programmes will be discussed, as well as recent trends in criminological research and practices of intervention that aim at reducing juvenile delinquency and improve justice. Attention will also be paid on ‘child friendly justice’ in civil and penal proceeds, and issues on child access to justice and child hearing in judicial proceeding will be addressed.

In addition to the regular MCR students, a maximum of five auditors will be accepted to participate in this module.

The fees to attend the MCR Module 5 as an auditor amount to 2.000 CHF (~ €1’650 – US$ 2’200) which does not include travel expenses, housing and meals. Applications are due before 14 February 2014.
