Children’s Human Rights in the Americas: Establishing an International Judicial Framework for Corporal Punishment

Summary: This conference will take place on 20 October from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm at George Washington Law School, Washington DC.

This conference is being organised in conjunction with a hearing on corporal punishment at the InterAmerican Commission on Human Rights.

Speakers will include:

Peter Newell - Coordinator of the Global Initiative to End All Corporal Punishment of Children, on global progress towards ending legalized violence against children.

Mario Alberto Víquez Jiménez – Department for Children and Adolescents. Office of the Ombundsman, Costa Rica on the Costa Rican experience on promoting a full ban of corporal punishment of children.

Maria do Rosario Nunes – Member of National Congress for the State of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, on the Brazilian initiative on banning all corporal punishment of children.

Nadine Block - Executive Director of the Center for Effective Discipline and co-chair of EPOCH-USA, on how to campaign in the USA.
