Children, Young People and Adults: Extending the Conversation

The University of Central Lancashire is delighted to be hosting the second international conference of the International Childhood and Youth Research Network (http://www.icyrnet.net/).

The conference takes place side by side with Global Conversations, an international gathering of children and young people being planned around broad themes of participation and citizenship. Shared plenary sessions, and smaller workshops, will create spaces where children, young people and adults can come together and engage in dialogue. 

Confirmed plenary speakers are:

• Libby Brooks (Columnist, The Guardian, UK)
• Jim Davis (Good Childhood Advisor, The Children's Society, England, UK)
• Allison James (Professor of Sociology, University of Sheffield, UK)
• Berry Mayall (Professor of Childhood Studies, Institute of Education, University of London, UK)
• Kavita Ratna (Director-Communications, Concerned for Working Children, Bangalore, India)
• Harry Shier (Education Adviser, CESESMA, Matagalpa, Nicaragua)

Other plenary speakers may be added nearer the date.

The conference is aimed at experienced and new researchers, policy-makers and practitioners from all around the world, and will offer:

• Exciting keynote addresses from academics, practitioners and social commentators
• High quality papers from research, policy and practice
• Workshops for researchers and practitioners
• Opportunities for dialogue with children and young people 

The conference takes place side by side with Global Conversations, an international gathering of children and young people being planned around themes being developed by young people. Shared plenary sessions, and smaller workshops, will create spaces where children, young people and adults can come together and engage in dialogue. It will also coincide with Preston Guild, a unique civic celebration which has taken place every twenty years since the Middle Ages.
