Call for applications: 2012 San Marino-Alexander Bodini Foundation Children’s Awards


Summary

The San Marino-Alexander Bodini Foundation will provide two or three grants to UNICEF Country Offices to support child-led initiatives/organisations that promote child rights and contribute to meaningful participation of children and young people in matters that affect their well-being.  

The 2012 grants, in the amount of US$30,000 each, will go towards strengthening UNICEF support to and partnerships with child-led initiatives and organizations based on a joint project proposal. The recipient UNICEF country offices and child–led organizations will be announced at the San Marino-Alexander Bodini Foundation Children’s Awards event to be held in New York City in January 2013 in the presence of members of the Government of San Marino, UNICEF, and likely the ambassadors of the recipient countries. The award winners will be expected to develop a brief audio-visual presentation to document the implementation of the activities spelled out in the proposal.


Purpose of Award

The award recognises the positive contribution and dedication of children to promoting child rights. In providing the award, the Alexander Bodini Foundation seeks to promote the child-led organization as a role model for other children and young people around the world. The support for this award is an expression of UNICEF’s commitment to the right of children to participate in matters that affect them#, as well as recognition of the positive contribution of children and young people as agents of change
 

Nomination Criteria

An organisation/initiative for and led by children (below 18 years of age)dedicated to promoting the rights of children in a local and/or national context dedicated to equal rights to participation of all children (without discrimination due to age, gender, abilities, language, social origin, class, ethnicity or geographical location) dedicated to address the concerns of those children whose voices are seldom heard (such as poor and marginalised children, working children, children living on the street) with democratic and inclusive mechanisms in place for planning and decision making with a long-term vision with a realistic plan of action and budget (including plan to develop an audio-visual presentation/video) that has an ongoing partnership, or is in the process of entering into a partnership, with UNICEF. 


Submission of Nominations

A concept note (five pages maximum, including budget), should include:

  • Short background information, including activities of the organisation/initiative
  • Short description of UNICEF's partnership and commitment to support for the organisation/initiative
  • Description of how the UNICEF office, in partnership with the child-led organisation/initiative, will use the awarded funds within the timeframe of one year, and how this contributes to strengthening and building the capacity of the child-led organisation/initiative
  • Short description how the UNICEF office will ensure monitoring, follow-up and review of the project in partnership with the child-led organisation/initiative and other children involved in the project.

Award Presentation

The recipient UNICEF Country Office and child-led organization/initiative will be announced at an event in January 2013. The child-led organisation/initiative may be requested to provide, in advance, photographs and short message to be presented during the event.  A brief audio-visual presentation highlighting the achievements of the previous year’s recipients will also be shown. (Please note: It will not be possible for representatives of the child-led organisation or adult representatives/supporters to travel to New York for the awards event).
