Zambia

A landlocked country in Southern Africa, Zambia borders the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, Malawi, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and Angola. After several decades of one party rule, Zambia moved back towards multi-party elections in the 1990s, and now operates as a democratic republic with a president as both head of state and head of government. Abuses by police, discrimination and violence against women, laws targeting LGBT people and the impact of a high prevalence of HIV/AIDS are all major human rights concerns for Zambia.
