Trinidad and Tobago

Located off the northern coast of South America, Trinidad and Tobago covers two main islands, is mainly inhabited by people of African and Indian descent and is one of the wealthiest countries in the Caribbean due to its abundant natural resources. An independent republic since 1976, the country holds regular elections for a parliament with a prime minister, and who in turn elect the president as head of state. Domestic violence, sexual violence against women and girls and the varying ages of majority in different sectors of law are amongst current human rights concerns.
