An unincorporated territory of the United States, Puerto Rico covers an archipelago in the northeastern Caribbean, between the Dominican Republic and the British and US Virgin Islands. While Puerto Ricans are US citizens, the territory is not officially a US state. This means that while they can elect their own local governor and legislature, Puerto Rico does not vote for either the US president or for a full member of the US Congress. Persistent children’s rights violations include violence against children, trafficking, and discrimination against LGBT children.
