Christmas Island [Australia]

Christmas Island is an Australian territory in Indian Ocean to the south of Indonesia. The Island is not self-governing, rather it is administered by the Australian Department of Regional Australia. Treatment of asylum seekers has been contentious on the island, and since 2006 it has been the location of an 800 bed Detention Centre for people seeking asylum.
