Sierra Leone

Sierra Leone is situated in West Africa and has a tropical climate. Recovering from a 10-year civil war which ended in 2002, this constitutional republic is still haunted by the legacy of the atrocities during the fighting. Although much progress has been made towards reconciliation since the end of the war, especially regarding the use of children as soldiers, human rights violations continue, including discrimination relating to citizenship at birth, sexual abuse and forced marriage.
