Russian-speaking Research Intern

The Child Rights International Network (CRIN) is looking for a Russian-speaking Research Intern to support its Eastern Europe and Central Asia (EECA) programme.

About CRIN

CRIN is a small international children's rights advocacy network based in central London. Guided by our passion for social and legal change, we press for rights, not charity, and advocate for a genuine systemic shift in how governments and societies view children. Our inspiration is the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). We launch advocacy campaigns, work as part of international coalitions, and strive to make existing human rights enforcement mechanisms accessible for all.

The role

The Russian-speaking Research Intern will primarily assist CRIN's Eastern Europe and Central Asia programme with:

Research (20% of time)

  • Desk-based research identifying strategic court cases covering a varied range of children’s rights violations in Central and South-Eastern Europe, and Eastern EU neighbourhood countries;
  • Identifying, contacting and interviewing key actors to investigate and document the background, timeline and outcome of selected strategic litigation cases.

Drafting (40% of time)

  • Drafting comprehensive narratives in Russian based on selected court cases examining how strategic litigation works in practice and what are its possible outcomes, impact and limits;
  • Drafting other policy documents (primarily in Russian, but also in English) on a variety of topics related to children’s rights, such as: digital rights, intersex rights, toxics and environment, and others.

Translations (30% of time)

  • Translating relevant research as well as information on the CRIN website from English to Russian.

Communications (10% of time)

  • Monitoring the latest developments in human rights/children's rights in the region, including the latest case law, and publishing updates on the CRIN website.

Person specification

  • Native-level fluency in Russian;
  • Fluency in English;
  • Academic qualification in social science, preferably journalism;
  • Advanced studies in children's rights, human rights, law or international law would be an advantage;
  • Excellent research and analytical skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Excellent written and editing skills, including ability to translate complex legal information into accessible non-legal language;
  • Experience of conducting interviews;
  • Flexible - can adapt to changing work priorities at short notice and take on the ideas of others.

Aside from sharing our values, we are looking for someone who takes initiative, is creative, and wants to work in a multicultural environment. We will provide you with the opportunity to work as part of a small team of dedicated and passionate people and the chance to shape and contribute to a growing and exciting new area of children's rights advocacy.
