these statistics. The authors restate the fact that a nation gains
substantial economic and social benefits when it educates its girls
but despite this too little appears to being done to close the gender
gap in education between boys and girls. The authors point out that
most girls do not go to school because they work, so attempts to
raise the number of girls attending schools must also address broader
initiatives to abolish child labour. Most of the work performed by
girls is hidden undervalued and uncounted and is often overlooked by
campaigners against child labour. The booklet then goes on to look at
the myths about girls work and the effects this has on their access
to education. The authors finish with a series of six recommendations
for change.
