Listening to the Views of Children: the Alternative Care context (Lebanon)

The Lebanese Association of SOS Children's Villages is a non-governmental organisation that was established in 1969. In the context of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, it responds to children's needs by providing 1) family-based child care for children without parental care and 2) family strengthening programmes aimed at preventing child abandonment.

As a member of SOS-Kinderdorf International, the Lebanese Association participated actively by means of the NGO Working Group on Children Without Parental Care, in formulating the Draft UN Guidelines for the Protection and Alternative Care of Children Without Parental Care.

Based on the experience gained in the field of family-based child care and the Association's compliance with the Convention on the Rights of the Child, this submission for the Day of General Discussion 2006 focuses on the rights of the child to be heard within alternative care.

Good practices will be shared, anything impeding children from participating will be discussed and specific actions will be recommended.
