Youth Agenda 2002

Summary: This is a dynamic project aiming to
educate and mobilise young
Canadians around issues of
sustainable development, towards
the World Summit on Sustainable
Development.
Since the first Earth Summit in 1992 in Rio de Janeiro, youth have
played an increasingly active role in the decision-making
processes in Canada and have undertaken a wealth of initiatives
to further sustainable development in the country.

The Youth Agenda 2002 project is about providing an opportunity
for individual youth and youth organisations to take an active role
in Canada's preparations for the Summit. Under the co-ordination
of the United Nations Association in Canada (UNA-Canada), a
dynamic group of Canadian youth were brought together to
create the Youth Summit Team (YST) whose leadership was
essential to the success of the project. The YST has taken
concrete steps towards ensuring a successful stream of
achievements until the WSSD by creating an Action Plan to guide
their activities leading up to and beyond the Summit.
