State of the World's Children Reports

Summary: These annual reports detail what is
needed to turn commitments made
at the 1990 World Summit for
Children into actions that improve
the lives of children and families.
Each year focuses on a different
theme undertaken to ensure the
right of every child to live in peace,
health and dignity.

The State of the World's Children 1998: Nutrition This
edition of the report spells out a simple but most pressing truth.
Sound nutrition can change children's lives, improve their physical
and mental development, protect their health and lay a firm
foundation for future productivity. The report is available in pdf
and html format, at HREF="http://www.unicef.org/sowc98/">www.unicef.org/sowc98

The State of the World’s Children 1999: Education This
edition tells the stories of a world community unwilling to accept
the consequences of illiteracy or to be denied the human right to
a quality education. With the Convention on the Rights of the
Child as a guiding framework, governments, policy makers,
educators, community leaders, parents and children themselves
are advancing an education revolution. Their goal—Education For
All. The report is available in pdf and html format, at HREF="http://www.unicef.org/sowc99/">www.unicef.org/sowc99

The State of the World's Children 2000 This edition
seeks to fan the flame that burned so brilliantly a decade ago
when world leaders adopted the Convention on the Rights of the
Child in 1989 and then confirmed their commitments for children
and adolescents at the 1990 World Summit for Children. The
report is available in pdf and html format at HREF="http://www.unicef.org/sowc00/">www.unicef.org/sowc00

The State of the World’s Children 2001: Early Childhood
This edition details the daily lives of parents and other caregivers
who are striving – in the face of war, poverty and the HIV/AIDS
epidemic – to protect the rights and meet the needs of young
children from birth through age 3. The report is available in pdf
and html format at HREF="http://www.unicef.org/sowc01/">www.unicef.org/sowc01

The State of the World's Children 2002: Leadership. This
edition presents models of leadership from individuals, agencies,
organisations and alliances that have improved the lives of
children and families. The report spotlights the 'Say Yes for
Children' campaign and the UN Special Session on Children. The
report in English, French and Spanish is available in pdf and html
format, at HREF="http://www.unicef.org/sowc02/">www.unicef.org/sowc02

The State of the World's Children 2003: Participation.
This edition reports on child participation — the ‘right’ of all
children to have their opinions taken into account when decisions
are being made that affect them. The report showcases examples
of meaningful child participation from every region of the world.
With photos and artwork by children. The report in English,
French and Spanish is available in pdf and html format, at HREF="http://www.unicef.org/sowc03/contents/index.html">www
