Save the Children on Mother's Day - Teaching Resources

HIV and AIDS is a real issue for families in Mozambique. Thousands of mothers are affected and, as a result, children are becoming adults before their time. They are caring for their mothers, missing school, and having to work because their mothers are too sick to do so.

Save the Children is assisting the most vulnerable families in Mozambique and other places in Sub-Saharan Africa by helping them access benefits, helping children stay in school, and providing care in their homes.

Poor families across Africa cannot afford to pay the fees charged for even the most basic drugs and treatment to keep mothers alive. The World Bank and other donors must support African governments in ensuring access to free basic healthcare for all.

These learning activities are designed to make children in the UK think about the issues that children who have taken on an adult role have to face.

If you are interested in further teaching resources from Save the Children, School Link is a complete scheme of work for primary schools that gives UK schoolchildren the chance to find out what life is like in another country and also to support Save the Children’s long-term work.
