This is the report from a meeting, which UNICEF and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights convened in August 2008, that aimed to strengthen the linkages between the human rights perspective and the operational response of a range of partners to the global concerns over rising food prices. Participants included experts in human rights, economics, law and agriculture. The dialogue contributed to a more complete analysis of the underlying causes of the global food crisis, as the meeting explored the implications of the right to food on policy options available to governments and the international community in responding to the crisis, and how best to integrate the human rights-based approach and gender equality into intergovernmental and inter-agency processes in pursuit of the most effective response. The cross-fertilisation of ideas led to six agreed action points, which are detailed at the end of the report.
