It's MY Body

Summary: Rozan is an NGO that works on the mental and emotional health of women and children focusing on issues of violence. Aangan is Rozan's children's program which has been working on the emotional health of children, particularly child sexual abuse for the past 11 years. Recently, Aangan has developed 2 books for children on body protection.

The first book is for younger children, ages 5 to 11, entitled "It's MY Body" or "Tinkoo and Tina Kay Saath, Apney Khayal Rakhney Ki Baat" (available in both English and Urdu).  Aangan has also developed books for older children, aged 12-18 on body protection as well, entitled "Tahafuz Hamara Haq Hai" (Protection is Our Right). The English version of the book will also be available soon.

It has been Aangan-Rozan's experience that children lack the basic awareness and knowledge about this issue, which makes them more vulnerable to abuse. This book can serve as a medium for children to learn about body protection in an age-appropriate, non-threatening and fun way.
Aangan has also worked with countless number of parents who feel that child sexual abuse is a serious issue and want to impart information on body protection. These parents have also expressed that although they would like to address sexual abuse they often lack the language and tools to do so, and often fall prey to embarrassment due to the tabooed nature of the issue in Pakistani society. These books enable parents and adults to approach this essential topic with children in a comfortable and culturally sensitive way.
