Guidelines for the Care of Sexually Transmitted Infections in Conflict-affected Settings

Summary: The STI Guidelines aim to raise awareness of the complexities of sexually transmitted infection (STI) care and to highlight the areas where improvements may be possible. The Guidelines will help health coordinators,
program managers and technical advisors to take action to combat STIs.

While technical components for clinical health workers are included, the Guidelines also provide non-clinical staff with insight into an important public health issue. The Guidelines were developed to show that effective STI care requires investment in technical capacity to design and implement appropriate, technically sound programs. Moreover, the Guidelines demonstrate that effective service delivery must include reliable data, drug management, training and supervision, as well as effective clinic care. Finally, advocacy is highlighted as an essential tool to ensuring that STI control receives the necessary attention in conflict-affected settings. The Guidelines are available in three parts: - Sections 1-4: http://www.rhrc.org/pdf/sti_guidelines_part1.pdf - Sections 5-10: http://www.rhrc.org/pdf/sti_guidelines_part2.pdf - Evaluation forms and annexes: http://www.rhrc.org/pdf/sti_guidelines_part3.pdf or as a zip'ed 3.7Mb file at the address above.
