COUNCIL OF EUROPE: Information pack on abolishing corporal punishment

An information pack, composed of a handbook, a questions and answers booklet and a leaflet, all on the need to abolish corporal punishment of children, has just been issued by the Council of Europe. This pack will be one of the pillars of the awareness-raising initiative that the Council is launching this year to achieve abolition of corporal punishment of children throughout its 47 member states.

A media pack (composed by a TV spot, a radio spot and inserts for printed media) will be issued in Spring.

The Council of Europe expects governments and other partners to use both packs in national campaigns against corporal punishment. The information pack is already available in English and French and the questions and answers booklet, targeting both professionals and the general public, will be translated into 12 additional languages. E-versions of both the booklet and leaflet can be downloaded from the website of "Building a Europe for and with children: http://www.coe.int/children
