Concept Note for the Regional Consultation on Violence Against Children - Egypt 27-29 June 2005

Summary: Background information on the UN Study in
general with a particular focus on children's
meaningful participation and how this is being
ensured in the Middle East and North Africa
Region.

MENA region has examples of children playing crucial role in providing
critical direction for realisation of child rights. Children right to participation
and their active part in decisions that affects them are embedded in the UN
CRC. Many local, national, regional and global processes in the last few
years have demonstrated the value added in including children in
programme and project cycles. Children have participated as individuals
and as collectives. They have participated in assessing child rights
situations, in planning and designing initiatives/ projects.
