Access for All – Helping to Make Participatory Processes Accessible for Everyone

Summary: The handbook describes common obstacles to
rights-based approaches, and how to
overcome them with specific procedures and
planning

Participation is about being involved in and contributing to a
process. Accessibility, in communications and environments, is all
important in enabling significant participation to happen.

Access for All is an extensive set of guidelines for everyone on
how to ensure communications are easy and clear, and details
what it takes to create relaxed and comfortable environments.

The handbook describes common obstacles, how to overcome
them with specific procedures and planning. Particular sections
concentrate on using simple language and what accessibility
means in practice. This covers the printed word, Braille, audio
cassettes and translating into other languages. The demands of
holding a successful presentation or discussion – using visuals,
speech and videos – are also analysed. The book also covers
general organisation, financing, and ways of learning from
experience, ending with a contacts list for further information. Owner: Ingrid Lewis pdf: www.crin.org/docs/resources/publications/hrbap/Access_for_all.pdf
