About the Centre for Information and Documentation on Children's Rights from Moldova

CENTRE FOR INFORMATION AND DOCUMENTATION ON CHILDREN'S
RIGHTS FROM MOLDOVA

1) aims
* To promote knowledge among children and youth about the
United Nation Convention on Children Rights and other national
and international acts concerning children rights in particular and
human rights in general;
* To educate children in the spirit of democracy, intercultural and
interpersonal communication, tolerance, peace, non-
discrimination, etc.
* To promote and practice children rights participation, freedom of
expression and information;
* To elaborate and promote the concepts of democratic education
in collaboration with national and international youth
organisations;
* To train Non-Governmental Youth Organisations Leaders;
* To inform the public about children and youth problems and
specific needs;
* To involve youth in activities concerning social exclusion
elimination, xenophobia and discrimination of all kinds

Volunteer Training

* Two generations of volunteers have been trained. The first
group was trained in October 98 by experts from UNICEF
Moldova, UNICEF Romania, USA, EYE-Moldova, CONTACT Centre
and other national experts. Each generation consists of
approximately 40 young people, mainly students from different
universities faculties in Chisinau and Balti, such as: law, history,
psychology, pedagogical, sociology, economics, philosophy,
politology and philology. In October 99, the second generation of
volunteers attended a training seminar led by the most
experienced volunteers from the first generation. Volunteers
were trained in leading interactive activities with children and the
presentation of basic information about different topics
concerning children rights, education for the development of
democracy, intercultural learning, team work, conflict and conflict
resolution, communication and social justice.
* Activities with children in schools: Trained volunteers visited
approximately 18,600 children and adolescents from 50 schools
of all the districts of Moldova during the last two years. These
visits included activities in primary and secondary schools,
boarding schools and orphanages.

* Spreading Knowledge From Child to Child. During this period,
volunteers trained 8 teams of children from different districts of
Moldova: Soroca,Balti, Stefan-voda, Cahul, Edinet, Falesti, Floresti
and Valea-perjei (Taraclia). These teams, supported by local adult
councils, facilitated the spreading of information through the From
Child to Child project. The evaluation reports of these activities
show that the direct participation of the children in spreading the
information have a very positive impact on children who benefit
from this provided information.
*Children's Parliament: Volunteers of the center are involved as
animators in implementation of the Childrens Parliament project
which is co-ordinated by EYE-Moldova and supported by UNICEF
Moldova, USIS and SOROS Moldova. The projects aim is to
encourage the participation of the children in democratic
processes and valuing their rights through facilitation and
exercises. In addition, the project promotes the spreading of
information from child to child, child to adults and child to their
communities.
* The Publication of the Materials: The center has published three
illustrated brochures titled Drepturile Mele which contains the
basic principles of the Convention on Children Rights adapted for
children of different ages (3-8), (9-13) _i (14-18). Two editions
of newspaper Childrens Parliament have also been
published.
* United Nations Bus: The volunteers of the Center are currently
involved in the UNDP United Nations Bus project. The aim of this
project is to familiarize children and youth with the history,
achievements and themes of United Nation activities. Also, the
program spreads information about the specialized agencies of
the UN and projects and programs that are headed by the UN in
Moldova.
