To all organizations which submitted information to the Universal Periodic Review (UPR), As you may be aware, the United Nations Human Rights Council adopted Resolution S-9 of the Human Rights Council on “The grave violations of human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory particularly due to the recent Israeli military attacks against the occupied Gaza Strip” on 12 January 2009 at its ninth special session.

In this resolution the Council requested “all relevant special Rapporteurs, in particularly the Special Rapporteur on the Situation of Human Rights of the Palestinian People in the Palestinian Territories Occupied since 1967, Special Rapporteur on the Right to Mental and Physical Health, Special Representative of the Secretary General on Children in Armed Conflict, Special Rapporteur on Violence against Women, Special Representative of the Secretary General on internally displaced persons, Special Rapporteur on Adequate Housing, Special Rapporteur on the Right to Food, Special Rapporteur on Extrajudicial, Summary, Arbitrary Executions, Special Rapporteur on the Right to Education, Special Rapporteur on Extreme Poverty, to urgently seek and gather information on violation of the human rights of the Palestinian people and submit their reports to the next Human Rights Council Session”.

At the request of the group of above-mentioned Special Rapporteurs and Representatives, following up on this Resolution, we are writing to kindly ask you to share with them any available information relevant to their respective mandates.

As the timeframe for reporting to the Council is tight, the above-mentioned Special Rapporteurs and Representatives would be most grateful if you could send any relevant information by Monday, 10 February 2009 through the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (Ms. Linnea Arvidsson  at larvidsson@ohchr.org or Ms. Federica Donati at fdonati@ohchr.org).

Feel free to forward this request to any other civil society organization which may be interested in submitting relevant information.
