STREET CHILDREN: Call for Submissions for UN study

Summary: Further to a day of discussions on "Children living and / or working on the street" earlier this year, OHCHR requests contributions to the report being compiled on this subject. The final report will be presented in March 2012.

Further to a day of discussions on "Children living and / or working on the street", the theme for the 2011 Day on the Rights of the Child (read about the discussions), the Council adopted resolution (A/HRC/16/L.13/Rev.1), which strongly condemns the violations and abuses of the rights of children living and/or working on the street.

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) will be submitting a report on this subject to the Human Rights Council at its 19th session in March 2012.

How to contribute

OHCHR welcomes inputs, in English, French or Spanish, from civil society organizations and networks, national human rights institutions (NHRIs), scholars, research institutions and policy think tanks, private sector businesses and networks, community movements, children and youth organizations and networks, to provide information about:

  • Challenges, lessons learned and good practices in using a holistic, child rights and gender-based approach to protect and promote the rights of children working and/or living on the street, particularly focusing on relevant research, provision and support of services, and personal experiences.

Submission Deadline

Submissions should be as concise as possible and sent to the following email address no later than 3 October 2011: children.street@ohchr.org .

Finally, OHCHR will be organizing an Expert Consultation on children working and/or living on the street, which will be held in Geneva on 1-2 November 2011.
