Peter Clarke, Children's Commissioner for Wales dies

Peter Clarke, Children’s Commissioner for Wales and former Chairman of ENOC (2004-2005) passed away peacefully on 21 January 2007. In 2001, Peter became the first Children’s Commissioner in Wales and in the UK, when the new independent body was established by law in his country.

Children and young people had participated in his selection process, and he honoured their trust, by proving to be an excellent children’s champion.

As a member of ENOC, he contributed significantly to a large number of activities and discussions and demonstrated a strong conviction for the protection of children’s rights. Peter had a remarkable analytical mind and a great sense of humour!

He participated for 3 years in the Bureau of the Network and during his chairmanship, together with his colleagues, he organised an excellent annual meeting in Wales. Through his vision, his great ideas and examples of work, Peter has given enormous impetus to our Network and inspired us in listening to children, in understanding and in taking into consideration their opinion, their everyday reality and needs.

We will always remember Peter Clarke as a lively precious member of our Family.

George Moschos,
ENOC Chairman
