Job Posting: Advocacy Position

The Working Group on a Communications Procedure for the CRC (a subgroup of the NGO Group for the Convention on the Rights of the Child) is seeking to hire an Advocacy Position.

The position will be part-time (2.5 days per week which can be worked flexibly to achieve the aim) for a period of five months (February – June, 2009). Working space will be provided by the NGO Group for the CRC in the Geneva office.

Job Description:

Overall aim: to rapidly increase States’ support for the proposal for a new Optional Protocol to the CRC to provide a communications procedure, primarily through lobbying UN missions in Geneva on behalf of the NGO Working Group. The target is to achieve a resolution at the Human Rights Council to establish an open-ended Working Group with a mandate to draft the OP at the March or June 2009 sessions of the HRC.

Duties:

  1. Pursue meetings and maintain other contact with UN missions to increase support;
  2. .Set up and maintain a chart of contacts with States' and their views and positions on the optional protocol;
  3. Liaise as necessary with members of the NGO Working Group (by teleconference or in-person);
  4. .Attend meetings, as appropriate, on behalf of the NGO Working Group.
