Internship: Child Rights Assistant

The NGO Group for the Convention on the Rights of the Child is looking for a part-time intern for two months from September to October 2008. The internship will consist of monitoring and preparing analytical reports on the 49th session of the Committee on the Rights of the Child. The Committee will be considering the periodic reports of Bhutan, Djibouti and UK. In addition, it will also be considering the Optional Protocols on Sexual Abuse and/or Armed Conflict for Austria, Lithuania, Tanzania, Uganda and UK.

The internship will also entail assisting with the pre-sessional working group meeting of the Committee in preparation for the 50th session during which the Committee will examine the reports of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, Malawi, the Republic of Moldova, Netherlands, Republic of Chad, Maldives and Tunisia. National NGOs will be present during the pre-sessional meetings to brief the Committee and the intern will assist with logistical, organisational and hosting responsibilities.

The internship will also entail some administrative work to help with the overall direction of the organization. The intern will be involved in the dissemination of information and materials to national and international NGOs, general operating and organisational assistance and possible fundraising activities as needed.

Excellent English writing skills are required, as all reports must be written in English. It is therefore preferable that the intern be mother tongue English. The intern should be able to work independently and have strong organisational skills. The ability to write reports in French would also be an advantage. Interns will be expected to be in the Committee session on average 3 days a week (10:00-18:00) from 15 September to 20 October. The rest of the time, the work will be carried out in the NGO Group offices 3 days a week. The internship is not remunerated. The intern therefore has to cover all costs necessary for the internship such as travel, lodging and living expenses.
