CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: UN report on indigenous children

Summary: At its sixty-sixth session, in its resolution A/RES/66/141, the General Assembly requested the Secretary-General to submit a report on the rights of the child containing information on the status of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the issues addressed in the resolution on the rights of the child, with a focus on the rights of indigenous children.

The report will focus mainly on:

  • Human Rights of indigenous children
  • General Measures of Implementation and indigenous children:

Including legislation, policies on indigenous children, data collection and institutions that are responsible for implementation and monitoring of implementation of policies and laws on indigenous children.

  • Culture and Identity:

Including birth registration, right to culture, language, land and resources.

  • Survival and development

Including health (nutrition, water and sanitation, HIV/AIDs etc), education, particularly access to culturally suitable education e.g. multilingual education.

  • Protection:

Including exploitation, abuse and violence, armed conflict, social protection, juvenile justice administration, adoption and alternative care.

  • Participation

Including right to information, right to be heard and access to media.

Cross cutting considerations: life cycle, gender, disabilities, industrialized countries and environment.

Interested organizations and individuals are invited to submit a contribution (max. 3 pages plus attachments) in electronic format (preferably WORD) on the above mentioned issues or other issues related to indigenous children, by 30 April 2012.
