Youth Media & Development Forum

Summary: The Youth, Media, Development Forum is a unique event that will bring together media professionals from developing countries (NGOs and international agencies’ workers, producers, broadcasters, funding agencies’ representatives, researchers, etc.) to share and learn about media productions with children and youth.

The global aim is to create and produce more quality media projects with children, using all technologies and art forms available (Television, Radio, Internet, Print, Video, Music, Theatre, Photography, Cartoons, etc.) whilst taking into account local realities, and using the most effective application of child participation to reach maximum impact.

Some of the discussion areas on offer:

  • Training
  • Project Planning
  • Monitoring & Evaluating Impact
  • Networking
  • Fundraising

The forum will offer interactive plenary sessions, focused workshops, exhibits and a Market Place for sharing and learning. Children and youth will actively participate.

The participants’ focus is on adult professionals working with youth and being confronted with specific challenges, to

  • ultimately propose solutions to children’s problems
  • effectively participate to positively change the audience’s mentalities and behaviours

Funding agencies’ representatives are also invited, to discover the wide range of child media projects available trying to reach important development goals and promoting children’s rights.

If you are serious about starting a media project with children/youth, or if you wish to improve your already existing productions, this International Forum is for you. You will bring back with you practical information and effective tools to improve your work. 

The event will take place, June 5-8 2006 at the Palais des Congrès, in Bamako, Mali, West Africa. The Forum is an initiative of Plan.

The Forum will be interactive, participatory and practical:

  • enabling contributions and input from every delegate
  • ensuring the most productive outcomes.

Complementary core events, providing further examples of good child media practice will include:

  • visits to live media projects
  • children’s performances
  • a World Media Projects Fayre
