UPO-FCO Children's Festival "Childhood without borders" (29 April - 2 May 2005)

Summary: The project is framed as a tool to promote and
assess children’s creativity within existing
children’s associations in Russia and the
Commonwealth of Independents State. It also
aims to encourage diverse forms of socially
relevant team work, to evaluate programmes
and projects run children’s NGOs and to
analyze update methods and mechanisms of
children’s and youth work.

7th International Children’s Festival “Childhood without borders”
(Final activities, Moscow, 29th April - 2nd May 2005)

Initiated by the International Union of Children’s NGOs (UPO-FCO) and
supported by interested public bodies and agencies, trade unions and
numerous volunteers this festival will meet to its 7th event in Moscow to
commemorate 60th Anniversary of the Victory and the end of world war II.

The project is framed as a tool to promote and assess children’s creativity
within existing children’s associations in Russia and the Commonwealth of
Independents State. It also aims to encourage diverse forms of socially
relevant team work, to evaluate programmes and projects run children’s
NGOs and to analyze update methods and mechanisms of children’s and
youth work.

In general the project seeks draw public attention to children’s situation
and to life conditions for veterans, in particular, and to highlight best
practice while promoting civic and patriotic commitment and development of
young generation. The start of 60th Anniversary’s numerous activities at
regional and local level was given one year ago so that the meeting in
Moscow will summarize huge creative work done by children, teachers,
students, youth workers and volunteers.

The festival programme of this year comprises diverse contests and
commemorative actions:

- action “My token to war veteran”;
- contest in drawing and painting “Where my homeland begins…;
- competition in photography “Victory as seen by children”;
- contest of video films;
- children’s song festival;
- contest “My family during the war”;
- performance action “Kind Magician” to involve disabled children;
- game programme contest.

The festival final event will gather 350 children representing 36 children’s
associations coming from 18 regions of Russia and Kazakhstan. Besides
visiting famous sites and memorials in Moscow children will meet 250 war
veterans during the entire programme to an open intergenerational
dialogue that shall be highlighted at the gala performance at Cultural
center of Russia’s Armed Forces.

The meeting in Moscow shall become a fair festivity for children, parents,
war veterans within the great jubilee of the Victory.
