UN: UN Girlsā€™ Education Initiative ā€“ E4 Engendering Empowerment: Education and Equality (e-conference)

Summary:
The UN Girls' Education Initiative E4 Conference will be held in Dakar in May. Leading up to the conference an e-conference will be held online over a period of 5 weeks focusing on the below topics:

- Poverty, intersecting inequalities and girlsā€™ rights to education

- Quality education for gender equality

- Breaking the silence: contesting violence and girlsā€™ education

- Connecting social policy: climate change, health, AIDS and girlsā€™ education

E4 Engendering Empowerment: Education and Equality (e-conference)

To open up the discussion and allow the broadest possible participation in the E4 initiative, we will be holding an e-conference prior to the E4 conference in Dakar in May. The e-conference will take place over a period of 5 weeks, betweenĀ April 12th and May 14th. Each week will focus on one of the themes emerging from theĀ situation analysis produced for the conference:

  • April 12th- 16th ā€“ Poverty, intersecting inequalities and girls' rights to education
  • April 19th- 23rd ā€“ Quality education for gender equality
  • April 26th- 30th ā€“ Breaking the silence: contesting violence and girls' education
  • May 3rd- 7th ā€“ Connecting social policy: climate change, health, AIDS, and girls' education
  • May 10th - 14th ā€“ Convergence week

They will monitor, facilitate and if necessary moderate the on-line discussions. Introductory sessions will be webcast live viaĀ Elluminate audio-graphical conferencing, and will also be recorded and made available for off-line viewing. The discussion on the site will continue for a few days after the keynote, and then we will publish aĀ report summarising the emerging issues and insights. In theĀ convergence week the public will have a last chance to discuss the issues. A report summarising the e-conference will be published on-line and presented at the conference in Dakar.
