Seminar on the United Nations Human Rights Council

The World Federation of United Nations Associations (WFUNA) is organising a three-day Seminar on the United Nations Human Rights Council, in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR). The Seminar will take place from 26 to 28 July 2006, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva.

Since 1948, at the time of the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, WFUNA has considered the question of human rights education as an intrinsic part of its programme of activities. Over the last three years, WFUNA has organised an Annual Seminar on the Commission on Human Rights which has grown in popularity and reputation among Governments, NGOs, and Academia.

The purpose of this year’s Seminar will be to provide information on the Human Rights Council. Subjects will include the importance of the HRC; procedural matters; urgent measures; special procedures; universal review; treaty body reform. The Seminar will again be open to Government representatives, Members of WFUNA, NGO representatives as well as Academia.
