One World Film Festival - 20 to 30 October 2004

Summary: The 2004 One World Film Festival takes place
in the Ottawa area. This year, there are
several films dealing with child protection
issues.
The following are being shown at the Library and Archives of Canada, 395
Wellington Street.

A Great Wonder (Friday, October 22nd)
More than 2 million Sudanese have died in the longest uninterrupted civil
war in the world, now in its 20th year. Another 5 million civilians have
fled their homes to escape the fighting. A Great Wonder traces the
extraordinary journey of three young Sudanese orphans who have spent
the majority of their lives either in flight from the war or in refugee camps;
these 'Lost Boys' of Sudan are now resettled in Seattle, WA.

Frontiers of Fears and Dreams (Friday, October 22nd)
This is the story of two Palestinian refugee girls and their extraordinary
journey to the bordersof exile separating them from their homeland and
from each other. Although economic and Israeli military oppression affect
daily camp life, the girls find ways to live as normal teenagers. This is a
message of hope, hope for goodness, dignity, and solidarity.

The following is being shown at the University of Ottawa, Alumni
Auditorium, 85 University Street

Stop the Traffick (Friday, October 29th)
Stop the Traffick is an investigative expose on Cambodia's burgeoning child
sex industry. Since the end of the Khmer Rouge rule, poverty, corruption,
and global tourism have made Cambodia and its children particularly
vulnerable to the sex trade. This film highlights the efforts to rescue the
children and end trafficking.
