NGO consultation on NGO participation to the Human Rights Council High Level Segment

The Human Rights Council Secretariat is organising an NGO consultation to follow up on the initiative launched by the HRC President-designate to explore opportunities for a "coordinated intervention by the NHRIs, followed by a limited number of balanced NGO interventions" to be possibly placed at the end of the High-Level Segment.

Ambassador De Alba's suggestion, yet to be endorsed by the HRC membership, refers to "a limited number of statements (between 3 and 5), which should be balanced taking into acount geographic and gender issues". The statements should carry "long-term messages" and be delivered on behalf of civil society. Ambassador De Alba will be present at the consultation.

While ackowledging that it will be difficult to come up with a coordinated response reflecting the expectations of all, the Secretariat is available to facilitate this process. To this purpose, the Secretariat encourages NGOs based outside Geneva to be in contact with Geneva-based.represented NGOs in preparation of this meeting. Furthermore, due to space limitation, the Seretariat encourages NGOs to be represented by one person only at the meeting.

The consultation is scheduled for Wednesday 7 June, 3-4pm. Due to unavailability of rooms at the UN, the meeting will be held at the Ecumenical Centre, Salle 3 (1st floor), 150 Route de Ferney.
