MEDIA: World Summit on Media for Children and Youth

The World Summit on Media for Children and Youth 2010 will be held in Karlstad, Sweden in June. The conference, which will be attended by delegates from 100 countries, aims to help prepare children and young people for a new media world. The Summit offers opportunities for networking and participating in debates and workshops.

The conference aims to:

  • Support teachers and recreation instructors to participate in the world of media and information.
  • Give decision-makers access to research findings.
  • Provide the media industry with better knowledge of modern research which can be used in developing production and distribution.
  • Give decision-makers insight into the media industry and the requirements for producing and distributing high-quality content for children and young people.
  • Improve the status and availability of media education.
  • Increase children and young people’s involvement in, and influence on, media content.
  • Help children and young people make demands that will lead to better teaching about, and involvement in, the media.
  • Create and develop dialogue between those involved in media production and content creation, media education, media research and policy-making,
