Gordon Brown Child Poverty Initiative

Brown (UK Finance Minister), attended
by representatives of the UN system
including Carol Bellamy, senior
representatives of the World Bank, IMF,
and G77 and G8 Finance Ministers. Graça
Machel will attend and there will be a
live link with Nelson Mandela in South
Africa. Four panel discussions all on
the theme of ending child poverty.

This event is being hosted by Gordon Brown (UK Finance Minister) in
London and is to be attended by senior representatives of the UN
system including Carol Bellamy, senior representatives of the World
Bank, IMF, and G77 and G8 Finance Ministers. Graça Machel will attend
and there will be a live link with Nelson Mandela in South Africa.
There will be four panel discussions involving:

* UN and International Financial Institutions

* Developed countries

* Developing countries

* NGOs and CSOs

All panels will be on the theme of ending child poverty. Background
papers will be prepared for all participants, which are intended to
lead to outcome commitments. This could provide a key opportunity in
the repositioning of children’s issues. This meeting will be followed
in March by a seminar for the private sector, which will target
business leaders on the issue of child poverty.
