Global: World Youth Conference Mexico 2010

Summary: The World Youth Conference (WYC) Mexico 2010 will bring together young people from the country and from all over the world in order to have a conversation and a proposal with Government representatives, legislators and civil society organisations. The WYC will address 11 themes and create a Declaration with suggestions and recommendations for governments in the areas of youth and development.

The World Youth Conference 2010 will be held in Mexico. Mexico together with the United Nations System invite every nation to celebrate the World Youth Conference 2010, as an opportunity for discussion and reflection regarding the role youth plays in achieving development, with special emphasis on the Millennium Development Goals (MDG).

Five years away from the deadline set by the international community to achieve the development goals agreed to in the year 2000, a youth-oriented focus on these goals is required and indispensable in order for the efforts to be both lasting and progressive in the long term.

The conference is an initiative of the Mexican government and includes participation from various countries. The conference has full support from the United Nations System, as well as other multilateral organizations. It will be held in the city of Leon, Guanajuato, Mexico from the 23rd to the 27th of August, 2010.
