purpose of the conference is to

Special Session for Children on
children in the CEE/CIS and Baltic
States region. The following main
themes will establish the agenda of
the
conference: Children deprived of
parental care; young people's
health;
HIV/AIDS; education; and building
society's potential.

Generation in Jeopardy Conference, 18-20 June (Stockholm) : The
main purpose of the conference is to facilitate the preparation for
the UN Special Session for Children on children in the CEE/CIS
and Baltic States region. A review of the progress in the
achievement of the goals of the World Summit will take place.
The conference will be organised by joint efforts of Swedish
UNICEF national committee, UNICEF CEE/CIS and Baltic States
Regional Office, with support from UNICEF Geneva Regional Office
and the UNICEF Innocenti Research Centre. Ambassador Tom
Tscherning heads the conference project team. The overall
framework of the conference will be established around three
critical life cycle outcomes sought as part of the new global
agenda, viz. (a) that all infants start life healthy and are
nurtured in a caring environment that enables them to be
healthy, (b) that all children have access to basic education and
(c) that all adolescents and young people have opportunities to
fully develop their capacities to participate and contribute to their
societies. The following main themes will establish the agenda of
the conference:

§ Education
§ Building society's potential

The Conference is expected to result in some form of declaration
of intent, known as the Stockholm Manifesto.
