The 3rd Civil Society Forum on the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child will be held from 11-13 March 2010 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The Forum is open to all those interested in children’s rights and wellbeing in Africa.
The aims of the this Forum are to:
- familiarise civil society organisations (CSOs) with the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child, the Committee and other key regional human rights mechanisms and with how CSOs can effectively engage with them to promote children's rights;
- hold in depth discussions on three key activities taking place in 2010: budgeting (the theme of this year's Day of the African Child), maternal, infant and child health and development (the theme of the African Union Summit, July 2010), and the role of children’s rights in maintaining peace in Africa (2010 has been declared the Year of Peace and Security by the African Union); and
- plan CSO activities to mark the above-mentioned activities in 2010. Recommendations will be presented to the Committee, the Department of Social Affairs and to delegations attending the African Union Summit in July.
