BURMA/MYANMAR: Special Session of the Human Rights Council

The UN Human Rights Council will hold a Special Session on the Human Rights Situation in Myanmar on 2 October 2007. This is the Council's fifth Special Session, previous Special Sessions have been held on Darfur, Israeli incursions into the occupied Palestinian territories, the situation of human rights in Lebanon, and the situation on human rights in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories.

The President of the Human Rights Council will convene open-ended informative consultations before the session on its conduct and organisation. This meeting will take place on Monday, 1 October 2007 at 15:00 hours in room XVIII at the Palais des Nations, Geneva, Switzerland.

The Secretariat will be receiving NGO written statements on the Special Session. The relevant guidelines for the technical submission of NGO written statements are available here.

The deadline for the submission of NGO written statements is Monday, 1 October, 2007 at 12.00 (noon).

NGO written statements should be sent electronically to the attention of Ms. Laura Dolci-Kanaan (ldolci-kanaan@ohchr.org) and/or Ms. Noemi Dalmonte
(erbintern@ohchr.org), and not to the usual address (hrcngo@ohchr.org).

Finally, with regard to accreditation to the Fifth special session, on an exceptional basis, badges issued for the 6th session of th HRC (expiring today, 28 September) will be prolongued at the Pregny gate through the completion of the Special session. There will be no need for new letters of accreditation. However, for all new requests for accreditation an accreditation request letter ought to be submitted to Fax number : + 41 22 917 0494.
