  • The importance of recognizing the multifaceted social, economic, cultural and spiritual factors that influence sexual health and rights.
  • The need to break the culture of silence around sexuality which is pervasive in families, communities and societies throughout Africa.

The main theme of the conference is Sexuality, Economics and Development in Africa.

The sub-themes are:

  • Sexuality, Culture and Religion

  • To develop a media strategy surrounding the conference that will seek to engage dialogue on issues of sexuality, sexual health and sexual rights.
  • To produce a technical conference report that can serve as a reference document for individuals and institutions of higher learning working in the field of sexuality, sexual health and sexual rights.
  • To produce policy briefs that provide critical analyses of sexuality, sexual health and sexual rights issues, and that suggest ways of incorporating these analyses into national, regional and international frameworks for advocates and activists.
