 The 11th International Conference of National Human Rights Institutions on 'Human Rights of Women and Girls: Promoting Gender Equality: The Role of National Human Rights (NHRIs)' will take place from 4- 7 November, 2012 in Amman, Jordan. The conference will be hosted by the Jordan National Centre for Human Rights (JNCHR) in cooperation with the International Coordinating Committee of National Institutions for the Promotion and Protection of Human Rights (ICC) and with the support of OHCHR.  Representatives of NHRIs and regional co-ordinating bodies of national human rights institutions; human rights and gender experts; UN bodies; State representatives; Women and Children Commissions will attend the Conference. The overall objective of the Conference is to explore potential roles and strategic engagement (nationally, regionally and internationally) for NHRIs, individually and collectively with the aim of realising the human rights and gender equality of women and girls with a particularly focus on two priority areas; i) violence against women and girl-children and ii) women's empowerment: economic and social rights and the right to participation. Information on the Conference, including background documents, is accessible on the ICC's website: http://nhri.ohchr.org/EN/ICC/InternationalConference/11IC/Pages/default.aspx. As per established practices, immediately preceding the Conference, an NGO Forum will take place on 4 - 5 November 2012, in Amman, Jordan, with a view to consolidating the knowledge and experiences of CSOs with that of NHRIs, hereby strengthening mutual cooperation. International, regional, and host country human rights associations and non-government organisations working on the human rights of women and girls are invited to attend and contribute to the Conference and the NGO Forum. Outcomes of the NGO Forum will be formally presented to the Conference and will inform the development of the Amman Declaration to be adopted at the close of the 11th International Conference of NHRIs. Conference and NGO Forum languages will be Arabic, English, French and Spanish. Further information on the NGO Forum, including the registration forms for the latter and the Conference, can be found on the Amman Centre for Human Rights Studies (ACHRS)'s website: http://www.achrs.org/cpj/index.php/homepage-2/invitation Kindly be advised that participants wishing to attend both the NGO Forum and Conference are requested to submit two separate registration forms.
