Bal Panchayats in Maharashtra, India - An Initiative to Strengthen Children Participation at the Village level

Summary: This publication traces the journey of Save the Children Canada, Asia Regional Office’s Bal Panchayat (a local self-governance group of girls and boys at the village level) project in Tuljapur block in Maharashtra, India. The project has been implemented in partnership with Paryay, a local NGO. The concept of Bal Panchayat is set within child participation. The project, which began with five villages, has now been extended to 55 villages, providing space for over 5000 girls and boys within the age group of 8 to15 years to participate.
